Graduation Speech

Good afternoon fellow parents and friends. We are all so happy we finally made it to Red Rocks! It has taken exactly four years to get to this glorious day. We are overwhelmed with accomplishment for ourselves and one another. You know, my teacher once asked me, "what's different about Jeffconet that makes it unlike the traditional high school?" The first thought that came to mind was, "we're all real people, with real lives." In my life, i work part time, do high school on line, and go to CCD part time. My life is not like the traditional high school student.

Here at Jeffconet we are jump starting a new and better life through graduating, and moving up. I want to thank the heads of the school, Mr. Springer and Mrs. Springer, as well as Ms. Larrenaga for inspiring me to look at writing in a different way. I have to thank my parents for all their support in this journey, it was a wild one. It feels so crazy to be standing here in front of you all, I never thought i had the guts to make a speech at graduation. I have grown tremendously throughout high school and it has molded the person I am today.

I ask each and every one of you graduates to look on to the future. See where you want to be in life and go there. Find inspiration around you, it is everywhere. Immerse your self in it. Never let inspiration go. As Thomas Edison once said, "If we did the things we are capable of, we would astound ourselves." We are capable of so much and it would be a waste if we didnt perform to the best of our abilities. I'm going to leave here today with thoughts of what I really am capable of. The sky's the limit. Farewell McLain, and farewell class of 09' I wish you the best of luck.

  1. Love love love the last paragraph! I like your word choice and your sentence structure... the quote rocks too! Craft an introduction that really nails the meaning behind this last paragraph. You are on the right track ... keep drafting!

  2. I agree, I don't think our lives are like the traditional high school student. And yes, we need to perform to the best of our abilities!

  3. I think I told you this in class actually haha, but I really like your speech. Its formal, to the point and you didn't waste time finding a way to what Ms L wanted us to include in it. You straight up said, "my teacher once asked me..." and went in to answer that question. I like it.
